Interesting takes on the 130-word run on sentence I mentioned last week. If there is a takeaway, it’s this…
I mentioned you are a reflection of how you communicate. I know we are ALL busy. WAAAAY too busy, but take the extra 10 seconds to proofread your message before you hit send. 10 seconds. If you send 50 messages in a day, that is 500 seconds. Divided by 60 seconds, is a little over 8 minutes. If I humor you and do this over an 8-hour day, this is about 1.6% of your day. You might spend more time waiting at the coffee machine than that. If you look at 50 messages over the course of your entire day, it’s certainly less than 1% of your day.
If you type on your phone, you WILL have mistakes. If you have auto-correct turned on on that phone, you will probably have more mistakes. If you use SIRI or some other dictation software, you will certainly have more mistakes. If you send an email from your computer, you WILL have mistakes. Do you use a wireless keyboard and mouse? These devices will not send every keystroke you type. Type it, proof read it, THEN send it. Make it a habit. Take pride in how you communicate.
1% of your time to improve the way people see you. There isn’t much you can do in 1% of your time that makes a difference, but this does.
Your work, your way.
Happy Professionalism. Enjoy your work/ life balance.
