How are you holding up on your resolutions for the New Year. I hope you are able to stay on track.
Let’s try a different direction in this section this week. I had a family member pass last week. As such, I was tasked with gathering some photos. If you’re my age, you have picture that were actually taken with film. Photo albums with actual pictures in books. Imagine that… How on earth do we deal with pictures not on our phones? How do we make digital slide shows that we can show on a TV with, god forbid, a photograph?? Simple, we take a picture of the picture, right? Uhhh. No you don’t. If you do it that way, you’ll get reflections, the image quality is subject to your surroundings, and you can really only edit to get it to as good as the original. Want a better option?
Try PhotoScan. This free app is from Google. It takes 5 different images of your image (you move the camera around the picture as it guides you) and it stitches the images together. You get perfect image quality every time. These files are saved as a JPEG (so universally opened) at a 10 MB File size (so you can zoom in, crop out, etc.).
Yay. Cool. Why are you sharing this? Ever do a photo montage of the history of your club to share with members and guests? Perhaps you thought about it but felt limited because the history is in actual pictures and not in digital files. You could use this to scan architectural drawings and blueprints. Or, perhaps you have images from books that you wish you could share with a student you teach – maybe a picture of Ben Hogan’s grip from his book, or a chart from a Pelz short game book, or maybe a quote from Dr. Rotella or Harvey Penick. Are you going to tell that junior player to go read a book? Haha. Not today. PhotoScan the image, and you can Airdrop it to the student. That can be part of your routine in your lessons… Imagine if you had all your favorite images, quotes and instructional pieces at the tip of your fingers while you’re on the range with a student. No more “I’ll email it to you later”. It’s right here. This could be a game changer for you.
If you scan documents like fitting sheets rather than simply take a picture of them, the quality will be much higher and much easier to read on a larger monitor. Perhaps like if you scan that fitting sheet to send to your Callaway Rep. Haha
Your work, your way.
Happy Professionalism. Enjoy your work/ life balance.
