I’ve been training on the new Elyte family. The Elyte irons are out!! If you’ve seen them, you know why this is exciting. They are spectacular looking and even better performing.
I had a player for a fitting last week. He wanted irons. He was a good player. I asked him if he had seen anything in our line that he wanted to hit. Pro Tip: THIS question should be in your pre-fit interview EVERY time. It tells you what the player is thinking, what might suit his eye, and where his mind is at. It may not be right, but it gives you an idea. This player had Apex Pro and AI 200 on his radar screen. After talking to him for a few minutes, that was what I was thinking too. I had a glued Elyte 7 iron in a stiff flex shaft leaning against one of the bags. I handed him the club and said “Why don’t you warm up with this and I’ll build you an Apex Pro and an Ai200 to try.” I did and as we walked through the process, explaining the differences between the Apex models, trying different shafts, etc., he finally asked me why did that first one go so far? I had to think about what the first Apex Pro combination I handed him was. I was confused. He hit the AI 200 longer. “No, not that one. The one I warmed up with.” Ahhh. That one… He LOVED the look and I compared them side by side with Apex Pro and AI 200. We switched gears to the Elyte, and he decided on those and saved $600 in the process. “I mentioned with the $600 he saved he should get a new driver too. He hesitated, then laughed… Almost…
The question is what technology makes these irons so good? They literally outperform everything and look awesome.
AI Smoke was an awesome iron. It was the #1 iron in the marketplace in 2024. We replaced it with the Elyte iron. The Elyte iron has BIG shoes to fill. I was shocked to see an iron come in in that space for 2025. However, when I saw this iron for the first time, it started to make sense. When I saw what was under the hood, it really made sense. IF it performs, we have a homerun on our hands. I knew it before I even saw more than just a picture – much less hit it.
First, the family has four distinct models:
- Elyte is a best-in-class game improvement iron. It seriously could (and should) fall in the ever-competitive player’s distance iron category. If you sell it as BOTH, you can see how it will be a winner.
- Elyte HL is a higher launching game improvement iron. This is best for slower swing speeds who need help getting the ball up in the air.
- Elite Max Fast is an ultra-light super game improvement club. Think very slow swing speeds that need distance AND a higher flight. Women, Seniors and juniors. I fit a junior player to this head earlier this week.
- Elyte X is new. This is an Ultra-forgiving Super game-improvement club. It’s a bomber. It’s super forgiving. Last year we might have used the Smoke HL for this player. If he swings faster, he probably doesn’t need more height. We needed this one.
Second, ALL models are co-designed with AI, and have an AI Smart face. They all have a Redesigned sole to improve turf interaction (This is similar to what we use in the Apex family). Witha new steel, we have an improved sound and feel.
Third, the look and feel of a forged golf club, but in a game-improvement or super game-improvement class of club head. Compare the Elyte iron to the Apex AI 200 OR the Apex Pro. They look very close to the same – all three of them. If you hit them, they feel similarly as well.
Finally, and this is the biggie… The inside of the head has a piece of steel that connects the sole to the crown. That piece adds stability and helps the head maintain it’s structural integrity through the hitting area. THIS is what provides exceptional ball speeds. Hmmmm. It seems like I’ve heard that before. Yes, I’m certain I have, but where was it… Do you remember jailbreak from the Epic woods a few years ago? The two titanium bars that connected the sole to the crown… The technology that turned the driver world upside down? Yep!! That one. Imagine if you could do that in an iron… Imagine no more – it’s here. Wait, you have a steel “brace” that runs up and down inside this head? In a head this small that looks this good? Yes!! Now you can go out and hit it!!
Why is this better? Making an iron with a hot face that goes a mile is easy. Anyone can do that – especially if you have AI. The problem? Shots can have inconsistent distance control – they can produce “jumpers” that go a mile at seemingly the least opportune times. Elyte changes all that. What if you could flip the script? Use the body to make the ball go far (with a jailbreak style of technology), and then use AI to make the face more forgiving (read: make the miss-hits go the same distance as the good ones). NOW you’re talking!! There is still plenty of room inside to make the head forging too. Calling these irons revolutionary is an understatement. Distance like the longest distance irons you’ve ever seen, forgiving like the most forgiving irons in any class ever, consistency like a forged iron, feel like a forged iron, and the look of a players iron. THIS is ELYTE.
Yes. They perform as good as they look. $899.99 for a 6 piece set? You’re welcome.
